Isn't this already a movie ... eternal sunshine of a spotless mind?

Painful memories are what give's life it's depth and richness. Our capacity to love is only as deep as our capacity to hurt ....

Agreed. But if the memory can remain without becoming a debilitating factor in one's life, maybe that's the best of both worlds?
